On Friday, students worked in groups to design and build a habitat for our pet hamsters. They used different types of blocks and books. Luckily, Lily has several toy hamsters that we were able to borrow to try out in the habitats. Fun was had by all!

All About: Hamsters and Habitats
This week in science, we discussed the difference between wild and domestic animals. We then focused on the domestic animal: the hamster. We learned all about the hamster and students even wrote persuasive letters to me asking for a hamster as a classroom pet (all pretend!).

All About: OREO Opinion Writing
The children have been learning how to write their opinions and support their opinions with reasons and examples. This week we used an Oreo cookie to help us remember the parts of an opinion writing piece.
O=Opinion, R=Reasons, E=Examples, and O=Restate Opinion. It was a fun and yummy lesson!

All About: Pictographs
This week in math, we started learning about data and graphs.
We first learned how to make and read a tally chart. The children learned that when they make a small line it is called a 'hash' and when they make the fifth line it is called a 'slash'.
Then we learned about pictographs. Pictographs use pictures to show data. Sometimes the picture can equal more than one and it is important to read the graph before answering questions.
On Friday, we had fun and made Skittles pictographs!

All About: Think Sun!
We are tired of all the cold and snow. It is April! We are ready to go outside and play! Our new class moto is, "Think Sun!" It has to show up sooner or later, right?!
On Friday, we made suns out of paper plates and tissue paper. They are on our bulletin board. Now everyone knows that 1A is "Thinking Sun!" and we can't wait for it to be sunny days and warm.
