Week 9: Frozen Pumpkins

In Science, we are learning about matter and the three stages of matter; solid, liquid, and gas.

We decided to try an experiment to see how long it would take to freeze juice in pumpkin-shaped ice cube trays.  We used the scientific method to help us think of the process of turning a liquid into a solid.

Mrs. Cady put popsicle sticks in them when they were getting slushy.

It took 2 hours for our pumpkin popsicles to freeze!  The students wrote down this information in their science journals.

The frozen juice took the shape of the pumpkin.

We enjoyed eating our experiment!

We even saw what happened once the frozen pumpkins were exposed to heat.  They turned back into a liquid!

Week 8: Spookley the Square Pumpkin

Halloween is approaching and we have started reading some Halloween-themed stories in our classroom.

We read a great story about how everyone and everything is different, called Spookley the Square Pumpkin.  This book was all about a pumpkin who felt different because he was square-shaped instead of round like all of the other pumpkins.

It was a great time to continue talking about being bucket fillers and bucket dippers!

After we read the story, we made our very own unique pumpkins and wrote about them!  They turned out great!

I love our unique pumpkin patch!  Everyone is truly
 "one-of-a-kind."

Week 7: Rainbow Ways to Make 10

This week in math, we learned and practiced the 11 addition facts that equal 10.  We used a rainbow to help us memorize these math facts!
A Cupcake for the Teacher: Rainbow to 10 Freebie

Ask your child to recite all 11 ways to you!  These math facts can help your child solve other math facts quickly.

For Example:  If 8 + 2 =10 Then 8 +3= 1 more than 10 (11)

Week 6: Sight Words and Snack Time

After recess, we have our snack and we practice our leveled sight words that are found in your child's BEE book.

We like to have an easy snack on Mondays-Thursdays (pretzel rods) while we practice our sight words.  It gives the children a chance to refuel with a simple snack, but we don't have to lose too much academic time-since the children are focused on practicing their sight words!

On Fridays, we like to have a different type of snack (goldfish, animal crackers, fruit snacks...) and we take a break from our sight words!

Your child's leveled sight word list is found in their BEE Book.  Please continue to practice these words with your child at night.  Your child should know them in a 'snap' and shouldn't have to think too long about a word.

When your child passes a level of sight words, they receive a sticker in their data folders at school!
