Week 19

What a Week!
My week started off in Pittsburgh with Mr. Cook and Mrs. Whitman.  Klein Elementary was given an award for being a Distinguished Title I School.  I had the honor of attending the ISP Title I conference for three days.  While there, I went to many different sessions put on by other Pennsylvania educators.  I got some great ideas to bring back to Klein!
Mrs. Whitman and I also presented a 90 minute session titled "Readers Under Construction"  Providing the Building Blocks to Support Strong Readers.  We shared all of the awesome things we are doing at Klein like LOGIC. Also, we shared research that proves explicit phonemic awareness and phonics instruction is key to early reading success.
I had an amazing experience in Pittsburgh, but I was super happy to be back in Erie and see all of my kiddos!  I can't wait to start the 2nd semester with my amazing first graders!

Congratulations Kamdyn!
Kamdyn passed level z in addition and is moving on to subtraction!
I apologize for not sending home a weekly newsletter in the last couple weeks.  The beginning of the year has been quite busy.  Especially now!  We just brought home our new puppy!
Meet Charlie Joe Cady
Looking forward to so many things this New Year!

Week 18

Revising our Writing
We are writing narratives during writing.  This week, we added transition words and adjectives to our stories using post it notes.  These kids are great writers!

Happy Birthday Aurora!

Congratulations to Sofia, Jimmie, and Aurora for getting 50/50 on their 3 minute timed test!

Congratulations to William for passing level z on Rocket Math and moving on to subtraction!

Crayola Color Cycle
The first graders have organized a new program at Klein that helps the environment!  We are collecting dried up markers and counting them.  We will send them into crayola when we have enough.  Crayola will recycle the markers and turn them into something good for our environment.

Week 17

Beginning, Middle, End

We are back to work during this first week of 2019.  We began our new reading unit and are learning that all narrative stories have a beginning, middle, and end.  Here are some pictures of the first graders working hard!

Congratulations!
Before Christmas break, Aurora completed the addition levels on Rocket Math Online!  Yay!
