Week 30: The Great Kapok Tree

We celebrated Earth Day and did many Earth Day activities.

This week, we did a 'close read' on The Great Kapok Tree.

A close read is when you read a book or passage more than once and analyze the text to become a deeper thinker and reader.

Read 1-We read the book with little interruptions and discussed the main idea of the story.

Read 2-I reread passages from the book and we discussed some of the interesting words the author used in the book and talked about what the words meant.

Read 3-I modeled to the students how to use a Cause and Effect Graphic Organizer.  We found different causes within the book and then the students partnered up to discuss the effects the causes would have to the living things in the rainforest.

Week 29: Show me the money!

We are learning all about money during the month of April!

We first make sure we can identify the coins and their values and then we practice counting similar coins and mixed coins.

Counting money can be difficult for some children.
Touch Money is a great tool to use at home!

Week 28: Place Value Bingo

Last week, we ended our measurement unit and reviewed an important math skill by playing BINGO.  Place Value is a skill that children will need to continuously review!  We had fun playing the game and winning lollipops!

Week 27: Happy Easter!

We had a great 3 days of learning before our Easter Break!  Despite the snow that occurred on Tuesday, we are thinking Spring!

We created "Incredible Easter Eggs" and then wrote about them using lots of adjectives!

Happy Easter to Everyone!!
