Half Way There!

We are half way through first grade!  I can't believe how time flies!  We have learned so much in just half a school year, I can't wait to see what happens from now until June!

Your child came home with their 2nd quarter report card.  I am proud of all of my students because I know they work very hard!

Now that we are in the 2nd semester, your child will be expected to write a complete sentence on their spelling test and answer a written response question on their reading test.

You can help your child at home every night by doing simple tasks:
*Check your child's Bee Book every night
*Complete homework
*Practice rocket math (basic math facts)
*Read!  Read!  Read!

By working together, we can create a successful student that will be well prepared for 2nd grade!
Please remember to sign and return your child's report card!

Rain in a Cup

2014 started out with 2-hour delays and cancelations!  We have gone from -9 to almost 50 degrees in less than a week!  Needless to say, it has been difficult trying to get 1-C back on a consistent schedule!  Hopefully the weather will calm down and everything will feel normal next week!

Don't worry, with the little time we did have together this week, we learned a lot!  In Science, we are finishing up our Weather Unit.  This week we learned about four types of clouds and we ended our week with a simple science experiment; Rain in a Cup.

This experiment taught us that when a cloud is filled with liquid, it rains or snows.  We filled a cup with water, topped it with shaving cream (the cloud) and squirted blue food dye on top (the rain).  The students observed it starting to rain.  Some of the clouds were not completely filled, so no rain occurred!
